Transparency in Coverage
The Transparency in Coverage Final Rule was issued by the U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor, and the Treasury to improve price transparency in health care. The rule requires most health plans and health insurance issuers to make pricing information publicly available so that consumers, researchers, and other interested parties can better understand health care costs and compare pricing for covered services. The goal is to empower consumers with meaningful cost information and promote greater transparency within the health care system.
Because our health plan is self-funded, federal regulations require us to make certain health care pricing information publicly available. We are providing access to these Machine-Readable Files to comply with the Transparency in Coverage Final Rule and support greater transparency in health care costs.
As part of these requirements, health plans must post Machine-Readable Files (MRFs) on a publicly accessible website. These files contain detailed information regarding in-network negotiated rates and historical out-of-network allowed amounts for covered items and services. The files are designed for use by third-party developers, researchers, and data analysts and are not intended for direct consumer use due to their size and technical format. The MRFs are provided free of charge and support the Transparency in Coverage initiative by making health care pricing information more accessible to the public.
