Discover the Keys to Develop a System-wide Medication Management Strategy

Lani Bertrand, RPh
Senior Director, Clinical Consulting, Omnicell

It’s more challenging than ever to effectively manage the distribution of medications across the health system. Without real-time visibility and true standardization, how would you know how well your pharmacy supply chain is doing and what the opportunities are for improvement? Many hospitals have never done a system-wide self-assessment, nor do they know their options – models and technologies – to drive improvements.

To help hospitals self-assess their medication strategy, I’m excited to join Allen Zimmerman, Managing Director of Huron Consulting Group on Monday, Nov. 9, for the CE-accredited session “Key Considerations for a System-Wide Medication Management Strategy,” as part of Omnicell Illuminate 2020.

At this session, Allen will highlight the major considerations and factors to understand when developing a comprehensive strategy for medication distribution across the health system. This session will address many of the following questions you’ve probably already begun asking yourself: How to best meet your organization’s goals? How do I include 340B? What ways can I better leverage our buying power with outsourced providers? How do I overcome the challenges of large geographical distribution?

We’ll explore the power of pharmacy automation to maximize medication management processes. We’ll examine how advances in robotics can automate many manual tasks, including medication dispensing, sorting, packaging, and retrieval.

You’ll learn how automation technology can unite with an embedded layer of intelligence to deliver crucial, real-time pharmacy optimization and insights. Together, these tools and technology will free up clinicians for more patient-focused activities while transforming your central pharmacy into the smart, efficient, and accurate hub of care you need it to be.

For hospital pharmacies, especially those that are resource-constrained or impacted by the pandemic, this session will help you understand key considerations to develop a system-wide medication distribution strategy. We’ll also look at various approaches to centralization.

The complexities of the modern medication management process, coupled with the expansion and consolidation of health systems, have many health systems thinking more broadly about the right strategy. That’s a start. This session helps you turn your questions into answers.
