Salem Health Partners with Omnicell to Help Improve Nursing and Pharmacy Efficiency and Enhance Patient Safety
Omnicell, Inc. (NASDAQ: OMCL), a leading provider of medication management solutions and adherence tools for healthcare systems and pharmacies, today announced that Salem Health Hospitals & Clinics has partnered with Omnicell to improve safety and efficiency in their medication management processes through the Company’s automation and intelligence solutions at their flagship Salem Hospital, in Salem, Ore.
Salem Health will leverage Omnicell® XT Automated Dispensing Cabinets, which are integrated with the hospital’s electronic health record system (EHS) to streamline workflows, improve nursing-pharmacy efficiency and help enhance patient safety. The Omnicell platform also offers closed-loop interoperability to provide advanced medication tracking and diversion prevention.
“Our investment to upgrade to the Omnicell XT cabinets will enable us to streamline the medication administration process, helping to reduce medication errors, and increase medication accountability for pharmacy and nursing,” said Phil Martin, director of pharmacy, Salem Health. “Most importantly, clinicians will have more time to spend with patients, allowing us to provide the best possible care, while increasing job satisfaction for our nurses.”
Salem Health is the latest health system to partner with Omnicell as the Company launches its vision for Autonomous Pharmacy, a roadmap to develop a zero error, fully automated medication management infrastructure. Leveraging automation, data intelligence, and expert services, the Autonomous Pharmacy vision will empower pharmacists, nurses, clinicians, and pharmacy staff to focus on patient and clinician satisfaction, rather than repetitive, manual tasks.
“Disparate healthcare systems create disjointed workflow and extra steps for caregivers. Through the Autonomous Pharmacy, every dose of medication is viewed as a node on the network that carries valuable data about patients, inventory and cost,” said Scott Seidelmann, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Omnicell. “Leveraging this valuable information, we are able to help health systems like Salem Health to improve efficiencies, better manage resources, and ultimately help to impact patient outcomes.”
